Chinas Landwirtschaft setzt auf Kompositfolien aus Polypropylencarbonat

Auch in China stellen Plastik-Rückstände in der Umwelt ein großes Problem dar („white pollution“, 白色污染). Das chinesische Landwirtschaftsministerium führt deshalb seit 2015 einen „National Biodegradable Film Evaluation Test“ durch, bei dem 6 verschiedene biologisch abbaubare Folien auf über 30 Testfeldern an 13 Standorten mit verschiedenen Pflanzen wie Mais, Baumwolle und Erdnüssen getestet wurden. Besonders gut schnitten dabei Komposit-Folien aus Polypropylencarbonat (PPC) ab, deren Herstellung aus Propylenoxid, CO2 und Zuschlagstoffen am Changchun Institute of Applied Sciences der Chinesischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Jilin optimiert worden war. Wesentliche Vorteile dieser Folien waren ihre Wärme- und Feuchtigkeitsretention sowie ihre gute Herstellbarkeit zu einem günstigen Preis. Im April 2017 wurde deshalb der Grundstein zu einer Fabrik gelegt, die in Zukunft 300.000 t dieses Produkts herstellen soll. http://www.ciac.cas.cn/xwzx/ttxw/201704/t20170420_4778313.html

Jilin’s “plastic ban” sees some success

Jilin Province has banned since 2015 plastic shopping bags and issued fines from 1000 to 30.000 Yuan for their use. By the end of 2015, over 4.000 tons of biodegradable plastic bags had been manufactured and sold, plus 76 tons of biodegradable cutlery. The main material is PLA, and capacity for production of such commodities has been expanded to 60.000 tons.

Frost & Sullivan China: China’s pesticide market grew 2015 by 5 % and shows good chances for bio-pesticides

Until 2019, an average growth rate of about 4 % is expected to lead to a market volume of 237 billion Yuan. Since October 1, 2015, the use of methidathion, phorate, methyl isofenphos, carbofuran, chloropicrin, methyl bromide in the growth of vegetables, fruits, tea, sugarcane, and crops of Chinese herbal medicine is forbidden and will lead to a wider use and to developments of bio-pesticides.

Shanghai Institutes reveal molecular mechanism of Parkinson’s disease treatment by acupuncture

The Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics in cooperation with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine showed in a Parkinson mouse model that leg acupuncture led the brain regulated the autophagy pathway of dopaminergic neurons through non-dependent pathway mTOR, which restored the impaired autophagy level, cleared the accumulation of α- synaptic nuclear protein (α-synuclein) in the brain, and significantly improved the athletic ability of the animal model. Acupuncture in China has thousands of years of history, and through specific acupuncture points often achieves the prevention or cure of diseases.

China’s first cloud-based mobile health management platforms start in Wuhan.

The companies involved plan to focus first on the 3 most important diseases: 1. Hypertension (160 million people), 2. Obesity (over 200 million), and 3. Diabetes (20 million confirmed cases). The service will look for personalized management of consultation, health monitoring, health intervention, dietary guidance and sleep and psychological management.

China plans new supeercomputer

According to Xiangfei MENG, head of applications at the National Supercomputer Center, China will release a prototype in 2017 or 2018 of an exascale” computer, capable of at least a billion billion calculations per second. The exascale computer will be independently developed by the National Supercomputer Center, according to Meng, whereas only about a seventh of Tianhe-1A’s CPU chips, China’s first supercomputer, were Chinese”

China plans to launch first Mars probe around 2020

According to the Beijing Space Science and Technology Information Institute, China they will be able to successfully launch and land a probe on Mars as the technology concerning the rocket and detector is no longer an issue. A first attempt on Nov. 9, 2011, failed because the module did not reach the correct orbit.

China’s „Monkey King“ satellite searches for dark matter

The Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) Satellite, dubbed Wukong” after the Monkey King character from the Chinese “Journey to the West”, was launched on Dec. 17, 2015, on a Long March 2-D rocket from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. Like the Monkey King who can see through objects with his sharp eyes, the satellite has four major parts – a plastic scintillator array detector, a silicon array detector, a BGO calorimeter, and a neutron detector – together comprising about 76,000 minor detectors. It sends back about 20 GAB of data per day. Wukong is designed to undertake a three-year mission, but scientists hope it can last five years. It will scan space nonstop in all directions in the first two years and then focus on areas where dark matter is most likely to be observed.”

“Carbon Cloud Intelligence” fund raising provides 700 million Yuan

Started by a co-founder of BGI, Wuchun COO, and located in Shenzhen, the intended company is committed to build a health care database of the Chinese population which is Internet-based, and comprises an artificial intelligence platform (data mining and machine analysis). This platform could then be widely used in individual health management.

Chinese unmanned helicopter completes South Pole flight

„Polar Hawk-2“ can operate for about one hour at an altitude of up to 1,500 m, based on a lithium battery. During the polar flight, the helicopter took over 350 high-quality photos. China currently has four Antarctic research stations — Taishan, Great Wall, Zhongshan and Kunlun.
