The most advanced investigations are done at Shengli oil field by Sinopec, lasting already 12 years, with an improved recovery in the order of 4 %. Experts at East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai believe that 11 billion tons, half of the overall Chinese oil reserves, are suitable for MEOR and could add 500 million tons to recoverable reserves. Suitable strains are screened by, e. g., Huabei Oilfield Co.
