According to a suggestion of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the enhanced planting of indigenous Eucommia ulmoides trees in Southern China might lead to the production of 1.2 million tons per year of gutta-percha on 3 million ha. In 2011, China produced 720.000 t of latex from Hevea bark, the consumption of rubber was 2,81 million tons.
