Barley is the Tibetian staple food, accounting for 70% of the acreage of grain crops in Tibet, with 10.6 million planted acres and an annual production of over 660,000 tons. Resequencing of an ancient Tibetian barley variety led to a genome size around 4.5Gb with a total of 39,197 protein-coding genes.
