In a survey covering 6.3 million km2, heavy metals and PAHs were detected in about 16 % of all sampling sites, with higher values in the industrial bases such as the Long River and the Pearl River Delta. Soil pollution prevention action plants are presently being prepared by the Ministdry of Environmental Protection.
