QIBEBT’s group on plant metabolic engineering around Gongke ZHOU showed that the expression of two genes in poplar stem xylems, PdC3H17 and PdC3H18, is crucial for cell wall formation and thickening. The finding may be relevant for breeding transgenic poplars.
