The 863 project is led by Professor Liming ZHAO at ECUST and takes advantage of the Anxi Tea industry in Fujian. The process starts with bio-based glutamate which is enzymatically transformed to .gamma.-aminobutyric acid and on to butyrolactam (nylon 4, PA4). Fujian Hua Cheng Industrial Co. will be responsable for application testing of PA4.
