A new Environmental Protection Law will be implemented nationwide from 2015 onward and promotes, among other items, the production and use of clean energy which will help to encourage the development of a biomass energy industry. Annual raw materials are 470 million t of straw, 3 billion t of livestock manure, 109 million t of harvest residues and others. 15 million acres of marginal land could be used to grow energy crops. By 2020, China hopes to produce 146 GW of energy from biomass.
