The pyrolysis technology works on weed, straw, twigs, leaves etc. which are heated in a kiln at < 700°C, forming charcoal. With a national production of 700 million tons of straw and 1,4 billion tons of agricultural and foresty waste, biochar could replase 150 million tons of standard coal and might become an emerging industry in China.
