According to a government report issues by the NDRC, 80 % of the biomass generation capacity in China is not in an advanced state of technology and needs improvement. Biomass direct combustion in power generation equipment is mostly imported foreign technology, and general investment is between 10,000 to 12,000 yuan / kW. In view of China’s rich resources in biomass (e. g., 700 million t/y of harvest straw), the government is planning to step up support for improved biomass energy use.
