A joint project on “Artificial musk research and industrialization” by the CAMS Institute of Materia Medica and three pharmaceutical companies resulted in a detailed knowledge about natural musk components and their pharmacological action which led to the synthesis of defined APIs which are now contained in over 400 Chinese drugs. Sole producer of artificial musk is Beijing Lian Xin Pharmaceutical Co.
