A study at Guangzhou Medical University which used human embryos to make them resistant to HIV infection using CRISPR/CAS genome editing tools has led to discussions in China about strengthened legal supervision of such expeeriments. While the Guangzhou work was in line with China’s current regulations, some researchers saw a need for more precise regulations concerning the targets of such research and the ethics surrounding early human embryos.
