In a guidance plan for the new 5 years plan, the promotion of high-throughput gene sequencing instruments and reagents industrialization is earmarked. According to a “Chinese high-throughput sequencing (NGS) Market Research Report (2016), there are at present nearly 10,000 units of high-throughput sequencing instruments in China, about 7000 from Illumina, about 2,000 from Thermo Fisher, about 200 from Pacific Biosciences and 600 other units. According to estimates, there are about 1,700 NGS sequencing machines, almost 1000 from Illumina, about 600 from Thermo Fisher, about 50 from Pacific Biosciences, and 50 others.
