The team around Wenhao HU and Yushe YANG at CAS Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica and CAS Institute of Biological Sciences used methods of drug design to optimize fungicides directed against fluconazole-resistant Candida, Cryptococcus and Aspergillus. Liver toxicity was low, and mice infected with Candida albicans strains displayed significantly improved survival rates.
